Inside ‘Monstropolis’: Disney World Drops Big Details on Its Next Massive Theme Park Land

  • Monstropolis Announced: Disney World has officially unveiled new details for Monstropolis, a dedicated Monsters, Inc. themed land opening at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in 2027.
  • Disney’s First Suspended Coaster: The land’s anchor attraction features Disney’s first-ever suspended roller coaster, launching guests 40 feet high in 4 seconds into the film’s iconic door vault.
  • New Interactive Theater Show: Features a new performance developed by Pixar and Industrial Light & Magic at the Glob Theater, complete with physical animatronics, high-def screens, and an original song by Randy Newman.
  • Movie-Accurate Dining & Shops: Introduces Archie’s Scare Pig Pizza, the Monsters University Alumni Club, and a real-world Harryhausen’s sushi restaurant with an animatronic octopus chef.

Where you there in 2001 when the first Monsters, Inc. movie came out? No? Then you don’t get first dibs on Monstropolis…we do. What is Monstropolis, you ask? According to Disney, it’s a brand-new, fully realized Monsters, Inc. themed land debuting in 2027. The immersive expansion is one that invites “human visitors” into the monster world as part of a citywide “H.U.M.A.N. Day” celebration, bringing the beloved Pixar franchise to life through groundbreaking ride technology, interactive entertainment, and themed dining straight off the silver screen.

While more details are still being revealed, we do know that the central pillar of Monstropolis is Disney’s first-ever suspended roller coaster, engineered to recreate the famous high-flying door vault chase sequence from the original film. The features? For starters, it’s built with custom hanging ride vehicles designed to look like industrial door track contraptions, the attraction features a high-velocity launch mechanism that thrusts riders 40 feet straight up into the air in just four seconds before diving through thousands of flying doors. But that’s not all, either.

Beside the coaster, the Glob Theater will house Welcome to Monstropolis—an interactive theatrical experience created in partnership with Pixar and Industrial Light & Magic. The show pairs high-definition digital panels with live optical illusions, physical character animatronics, and a brand-new original song penned by legendary Disney-Pixar composer Randy Newman. But guess what? That’s not all either!

In addition to its flagship rides, Monstropolis will offer a full suite of movie-inspired culinary and retail stops designed to immerse guests in everyday monster life:

  • Harryhausen’s Restaurant: A real-world version of the film’s upscale sushi spot, complete with a fully interactive Audio-Animatronic octopus chef crafting dishes behind the counter.
  • Archie’s Scare Pig Pizza: A casual dining option named after Fear Tech’s infamous six-legged mascot pig from Monsters University.
  • Monsters University Alumni Club: A gathering spot highlighting campus fraternities, sororities, and legendary scarers.
  • The Scareporium: The central retail hub featuring exclusive Monstropolis souvenirs.

Monstropolis is scheduled to officially open at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in 2027, and I, for one, can’t wait.
