Robert Downey Jr., Sentinels & X-Men Cameos: The Avengers: Doomsday D23 Footage Was Pure Chaos

Doom. Marvel. Robert Downey Jr. Don’t matter, a billion at the box office (cue the LeBron James meme). ICYMI, D23 has been in the talk of the town this weekend, and this go-round attendees got a closer look at the epic upcoming crossover.  Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans and Hayley Atwell were in the building to preview the footage, which garnered positive reactions according to those who were there.

The clip kicks off with Sue Storm (Vanessa Kirby) warning Earth’s remaining heroes, but what instantly grabbed my attention were the hyper-detailed shots of Doctor Doom’s villainous new armor. From there, the tension spikes fast—we see a brutal face-off between Reed Richards (Pedro Pascal) and Doom amidst standing rubble, leading right into Thor (Chris Hemsworth) warning Doom that he’s about to regret everything.

Per Marvel’s official synopsis, Avengers: Doomsday tells the story of heroes from three universes who are, “set on a deadly collision course and face an existential threat unlike anything they’ve ever encountered.”

Honestly, seeing this collision of the Avengers, the Fantastic Four, and the Thunderbolts is hype enough on its own—but as someone who grew up on the classic 2000s Marvel movies, the real payoff is seeing the legacy Fox X-Men officially join the MCU. In the words of Phil Collins, we’ve been waiting for this moment for all our lives. Patrick Stewart (Professor X), Ian McKellen (Magneto), James Marsden (Cyclops), Kelsey Grammer (Beast), Rebecca Romijn (Mystique), Alan Cumming (Nightcrawler) and Channing Tatum back as Gambit is just one of the elements that has us crossing each day off our calendars.

Avengers: Doomsday hits theaters on December 18, 2026, and after seeing this footage, December can’t come fast enough.
