Come On and Slam: ‘Space Jam’ Returns to Theaters for 30th Anniversary

To celebrate three decades of the Tune Squad, Michael Jordan’s iconic 1996 hybrid-animation hit, Space Jam, is heading back to the big screen for a limited theatrical run. Even better, Warner Bros. and AMC Theatres have also announced a collectible basketball cup and basketball-style popcorn bucket to go along with it, making this a worthwhile gem for fans of the film.

Here’s what we know so far.

The 30th Anniversary Playbook

  • The Return: Warner Bros. has confirmed a special engagement in theaters across North America to mark the movie’s 30-year milestone.
  • The Legacy: Originally released in 1996, Space Jam became a global commercial juggernaut, grossing $250.2 million worldwide. It held the record for the highest-grossing basketball film of all time for over two decades.

Why It Still Scores in 2026

Even thirty years later, Space Jam remains a cultural mainstay. From the quad-platinum soundtrack (hello, Quad City DJ’s) to the legendary 1996 website, the movie is a total time capsule of a time when the NBA and pop culture merged into a single, legacy brand.
