As the global countdown to the Michael biopic reaches a fever pitch, the world is once again mesmerized by the silhouette, the glove, and the gravity-defying lean. But while the film will undoubtedly capture the electricity of Jackson being the greatest entertainer of all time, there is a quieter masterpiece Michael Jackson left behind: a $500 million philanthropic blueprint that remains unmatched in the history of entertainment.
Holding the Guinness World Record for the most charities supported by a pop star (39 organizations), Jackson didn’t just “Heal the World” through lyrics—he embodied it. Often donating anonymously, Jackson’s legacy isn’t just found in his many (and we do mean many) accomplishments, but also in the hospital wings, scholarships and orphanages that still stand today.
As we revisit Jackson’s story in 2026, here is a list of six organizations and initiatives carrying that humanitarian torch into a new era.
(Note: This is the first rollout of a broader series we have planned).

1. Heal Los Angeles Foundation (Heal LA)
Founded by Jackson’s eldest son, Prince Jackson, alongside John Muto, Heal LA is the direct spiritual successor to the original Heal the World Foundation.
- The Mission: Focusing on inner-city youth in Greater Los Angeles, providing “Self-Care” and “Education” programs designed to break the cycle of poverty.
- The 2026 Impact: They recently expanded their “Power Up” fitness and mental health initiatives to California elementary schools, directly addressing the modern youth mental health crisis.

2. Michael Jackson’s Legacy
The global organization Michael Jackson’s Legacy (MJL) is currently running one of the most practical and moving campaigns in the humanitarian space: “Heel Malawi.”
- The Initiative: Gifting “The Shoe That Grows”—specialized footwear that expands five sizes over five years—to 200 children in rural Malawi.
- The Connection: This project honors Jackson’s lifelong mission to provide basic dignities to children in the world’s “forgotten corners.”

3. USAforAfrica (The ‘We Are the World’ Trust)
Over four decades after the historic recording, the organization that Michael and Lionel Richie helped birth is still thriving.
- The Impact: USAforAfrica continues to manage the royalties from the 1985 anthem, which has raised over $100 million to date.
- 2026: They have recently partnered with TrustAfrica to fund grassroots community resilience projects across the continent, proving that “We Are the World” wasn’t just a song, but a perpetual endowment for human life.

4. The UNCF Michael Jackson Scholarship
In 1986, Jackson established the Michael Jackson UNCF Endowed Scholarship Fund with a $1.5 million gift to the United Negro College Fund.
- The Initiative: The fund provides financial aid to students majoring in communications and performing arts at HBCUs.
- The Goal: By 2026, this fund will have helped thousands of Black creatives enter the entertainment industry, ensuring Jackson’s influence is felt behind the camera and in the boardroom, not just on the stage.
5. The Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation (ETAF)
Jackson’s deep, protective friendship with Elizabeth Taylor led to some of his most significant (and quietest) donations during the height of the AIDS crisis.
- The History: Jackson was a pioneer in HIV/AIDS advocacy, famously championing the young Ryan White when the world was still gripped by stigma.
- Today: ETAF continues to provide direct care for marginalized communities living with HIV, carrying on the compassionate work that Michael and Elizabeth started decades ago.
6. Neverland of Hope
For the month of March, Neverland of Hope has undergone a charitable initiative supporting the ‘Make-A-Wish Foundation’ to honor Jackson’s legacy in the way he would have wanted—through compassion in action. While there are only a few days left in March, this is broader project that can and should be supported year-round.

The Choice in the Mirror
As we look toward the future of these six organizations—and the countless others Michael touched—the message remains as clear as it was in 1988: “If you wanna make the world a better place, take a look at yourself and then make a change.” Whether it’s providing a pair of growing shoes to a child in Malawi or supporting the next generation of Black creatives through a scholarship, we each have the power to carry that light forward.
