In case you haven’t heard the news, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is Sports Illustrated’s 2025 Sportsperson of the Year. Very fitting if you ask me, but guess what else is “fitting?” His “fits,” as the athlete has quickly become recognized as one of the most fashionable NBA players in the world. The media heavyweight naming (SGA) their Person of the Year isn’t just about his dominance on the court, it’s also a cultural nod to style influence. While the mainstream media is busy counting his ppg average, Decked Out is looking at his proportions.

The SGA Silhouette
“I think more than anything, I was excited by the fact that I had achieved those things and still had so much room to grow,” SGA told the publication in his feature. That certainly applies to his fashion, too, with the Oklahoma City Thunder star mastering the art of what we call the “Architectural Fit.” Meaning, Gilgeous-Alexander has effectively ended the skinny-and-tailored era, instead ushering in a space dominated by oversized silhouettes, technical layering and high-low luxury. One thing is clear: Gilgeous-Alexander wears the clothes, the clothes don’t wear him.
Why it Matters for 2026
Gilgeous-Alexander understands that it’s not about labels anymore; it’s now about iconography. You know who else understood that? A man by the name of Michael Jackson. Much like Jackson understood that his silhouettes had to be recognizable even as a shadow, SGA treats his pre-game arrival as a cinematic entrance, making him an athlete who truly understands that being “Decked Out” is a 24/7 commitment to visual consistency.
The Verdict
SI got it right on the impact, but make no mistake, SGA’s aesthetic architecture will also endure in the years to come. Gilgeous-Alexander isn’t just a player for the OKC Thunder; he is the Creative Director of the modern NBA aesthetic. Or as he told the publication, “Growing up you have goals and you write them down and you’re like, I’m going to get this one day. But way more people do that and don’t achieve their goals than actually achieve them. So it’s always like ‘Is this really my life?’ type of feeling. And I don’t know if that’ll ever go away.”
