The production, which brings the story behind Michael Jackson’s famous Dangerous World Tour to life across major multi-month engagements in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth, featured 532 total performances, which itself welcomed over 875,000 theatergoers, standing out as one of the most successful touring musical theater seasons in the country’s history.

Driving Employment and Talent Across the Country
In addition to strong ticket sales, the musical delivered a major operational and financial boost to the Australian performing arts landscape. From its initial announcement through its final bow, the production employed 290 Australian theater professionals across acting, creative design and backstage technical roles.
Led by performer Ilario Grant in the titlularcrole, the tour served as a launching pad for several emerging actors making their professional debuts. The core 72-member touring company was backed by 42 local musicians, over 400 venue staff members, and more than 200 secondary businesses handling staging logistics, freight, marketing and health services.
The Global Footprint Continues to Expand
The conclusion of the Australian leg marks another chapter in the show’s worldwide trajectory. Since first opening on Broadway in 2022, the Tony Award-winning MJ The Musical has reached over 7 million audience members globally.
While the Australian tour has officially ended, active productions remain running on Broadway, across a North American national tour, in London’s West End and throughout Germany, with an official Netherlands production scheduled to open in 2027.
