What in the world happened in the world on September 17?
There’s been quite a bit that has happened on this particular day, but I chose to give my attention to the popular 1970s sitcom M*A*S*H, which made its debut via CBS on September 17, 1972. A war-comedy-drama series set at the 4077th Mobile Army Surgical Hospital in Uijeongbu, South Korea, during the Korean War, the show followed a team of doctors and support staff who used humor and pranks as a coping mechanism against the horrors of the front lines.

11 Seasons, 256 Episodes, and 14 Emmy Awards
Spanning 11 seasons with a whopping 256 episodes (we rarely get this anymore), the series won 14 Emmy Awards and a Peabody Award during its legendary run. Its 1983 series finale famously became the most-watched television episode in American history, drawing over 105 million viewers.
The Forgotten 1987 IBM Tech Campaign Reunion
That said, this isn’t a traditional anniversary post. Instead, I’m focusing on the forgotten IBM campaign the cast reunited for in 1987. The advertisement saw familiar faces such as Harry Morgan (Col. Potter), Mike Farrell (B.J. Hunnicutt), Loretta Swit (Hot Lips Houlihan), and William Christopher (Father Mulcahy) joining forces once more to further promote the growing world of computers (can you imagine?).
The campaign began in April 1987, and while Alan Alda (Hawkeye) and David Ogden Stiers (Winchester) did not participate in the initial rollout, Alda later appeared in separate IBM spots of his own.
Cool little piece of history, right?
