**History & Synopsis**

Based on Brian Aldiss’ short story “Supertoys Last All Summer Long” and originally envisioned by Stanley Kubrick, 2001’s A.I. Artificial Intelligence stands as a haunting, philosophically complex masterpiece of sci-fi cinema. Directed by Steven Spielberg following Kubrick’s passing, the narrative is set in a climate-ravaged future where global warming has flooded coastal cities and human birth is strictly regulated. The story centers on David (Haley Joel Osment), a prototype “Mecha” child programmed with the unprecedented capacity to experience genuine human love. Adopted by a grieving couple (Frances O’Connor and Sam Robards), David is eventually abandoned in the forest, embarking on a Pinocchio-esque quest across a dystopian world alongside a gigolo android named Joe (Jude Law) to find the Blue Fairy and become a real boy.
