Lionsgate and Spotify have officially launched a coordinated digital partnership ahead of the April 18th release of the MICHAEL biopic. The centerpiece of the campaign is an interactive in-app experience titled “Discover Your MICHAEL Era,” which utilizes a user’s historical listening data to categorize their affinity for specific stages of Michael Jackson’s career.

The Integration

The experience is a mobile-only integration within the Spotify app. Upon activation, the platform’s algorithm analyzes a user’s streaming frequency and track preferences across the Michael Jackson catalog. Users are then assigned to one of six distinct career eras:

  • The Off The Wall Era: The disco and funk.
  • The Thriller Era: The biggest selling album of all time.
  • The Bad Era: The 1987 phenomenon.
  • The Dangerous Era: The New Jack Swing, baby!
  • The History Era: A pivotal moment in time.
  • The Invincible Era: Representing the 2001 era of digital precision and modern R&B

Technical Attributes & Social Sharing

While the promotional campaign features Jaafar Jackson in character, the user’s personal result screen generates a digital badge featuring the original album artwork corresponding to their assigned era.

How to Access

The feature is accessible via the official @MichaelMovie social accounts and through direct deep-links in the Spotify mobile app. This partnership marks another major interactive synergy between Lionsgate and a streaming platform (Snapchat being the other) for the 2026 film’s rollout.
