McDonald’s China is taking brand merchandise beyond the standard promo by turning its most famous piece of packaging into a functional piece of everyday equipment: the Big Fries Backpack.

Created to mark the 12th edition of the brand’s annual Big Fries Day event, the backpack recreates the exact proportions and paper aesthetic of a standard Golden Arches takeaway bag. To capture the authentic feel without sacrificing durability, the outer shell is crafted from lightweight DuPont paper, complete with printed fold marks, fry graphics, and front-facing branding.

The design is also rounded out with custom accessories, including zipper pulls shaped like French fries dipped in ketchup and a detachable charm resembling a printed register receipt dangling from the main closure.

Dedicated Compartments and Laptop Storage

While the exterior plays into clear visual novelties, the functional layout is surprisingly practical for daily use:

• Modular Side Pockets: Two side pouches shaped like classic red fry cartons fasten onto the sides via Velcro, allowing owners to detach them for a cleaner, slimmed-down profile.
• Dedicated Sauce & Strap Holders: The interior includes a built-in pocket tailored specifically for ketchup packets, while the shoulder strap features an integrated upright holder built to secure a fry carton on the go.
