This go-round, the Minion’s gang is taking a trip back to 1920s Hollywood, where they will see themselves accidentally becoming retro movie stars, as they attempt to create their own monster film with the help of a former arch-nemesis. Slated to anchor the high-value mid-summer box office, the animated crossover event drops the iconic yellow henchmen into their most precarious, survival-driven ecosystem yet.

The Trailer

For the first time in the series, the core conflict relies entirely on surviving an automated landscape of environmental hazards and alpha predators, as the trailer introduces a sprawling, non-linear stone labyrinth filled with boiling volcanic rivers, toxic crystal caverns and massive, highly territorial subterranean monsters. Rather than relying on the simple slapstick comedy the series has become known for, the team must instead weaponize a series of cobbled-together scrap inventions to open up clean navigation vectors before the ancient ruins completely seal them underground forever.

Financially, Universal is treating the July 1 premiere as its absolute flagship commercial asset for the fiscal quarter.
