After a long wait, Grand Theft Auto VI is going to be officially up for grabs starting very late tonight/tomorrow (depending on where you’re at in the globe). With Take-Two Interactive and Rockstar Games opening up Grand Theft Auto VI pre-orders starting tomorrow ahead of its highly anticipated Fall 2026 release window, standard gaming portals are fully saturated with baseline news drops. Make no mistake, the arrival of the game isn’t just a standard entertainment retail event—it is a high-stakes psychological threshold that will fundamentally test even the most loyal GTA fans.

Breaking the $70 Price Point
For years, the interactive media ecosystem has treated the standard $70 baseline for current-generation software as an unyielding ceiling. However, with pre-orders live, the sheer scale, generation-defining development costs, and guaranteed monetization potential of Leonida’s open-world sandbox have sparked intense debate about a potential mid-tier or premium tier premium price correction. The cost, you ask? $79.99 exactly…a tad bit more than the standard $69.99 that we’re used to seeing.
The Ultimate Edition
The biggest point of friction among fans right now centers on exactly what Rockstar is locking behind the Ultimate Edition paywall to justify its premium price tag. GTA 6 is fundamentally changing those rules. Instead of simple surface-level extras, the Ultimate Edition explicitly locks away five entire operational businesses across Vice City:
- The Custom Salon: A dedicated customization hub where players can adjust Jason and Lucia’s facial hair, makeup design templates, and nail styling assets.
- The Streetwear Store: An exclusive retail space containing specialized wardrobe choices.
- The Custom Ink Shop: A premium tattoo parlor packing 50 edition-exclusive body art designs.
- The Contraband Hub: A unique underworld operational center.
- The Vehicle Customization Garages: Two dedicated automotive bays built for specialized performance and visual modifications.
Needless to say, Rockstar is drawing criticism from some for essentially putting core parts of the open-world lifestyle experience behind a paywall.
