Overview

Harry Potter: Wizards Unite was a massive mobile augmented reality (AR) adventure designed to be the ultimate follow-up to the global phenomenon Pokémon GO. Co-developed by Niantic and WB Games under the Portkey Games banner, the game transformed real-world neighborhoods into a giant, interactive Wizarding World. Players suited up as new recruits for the Statute of Secrecy Task Force to hunt down “Foundables”—magical artifacts, fantastic beasts, and iconic memories that accidentally leaked into the Muggle world during a chaotic event known as The Calamity.

Why the Game Isn’t Available Anymore

You can no longer find Harry Potter: Wizards Unite on any app store because Niantic completely removed the game from digital storefronts and pulled the plug on its servers. Unlike traditional console games that stay playable forever on physical discs, location-based AR titles require constant, expensive live-server support to track real-world maps and sync multiplayer encounters. When the game failed to capture the same massive financial footprint as Pokémon GO, keeping the massive technical backend alive was no longer sustainable, causing the developers to permanently erase the digital world.

Gameplay Summary

Wizards Unite turned real-world GPS coordinates into a living map, turning everyday parks, streets, and coffee shops into magical Inns, Greenhouses, and Fortresses. Players could pick a specialized wizarding career—Auror, Magizoologist, or Professor—to unlock unique spells and stats. Exploring the real world meant casting spells by tracing glowing glyphs on your phone screen to return trapped magic. Fortresses served as high-stakes multiplayer raid hubs where friends could team up in real time to take down Death Eaters and dangerous monsters.
