Ready for a throwback that pays homage to the 1980s?
To commemorate exactly 40 years since Square Enix unleashed the original Dragon Quest on May 27, 1986, the legendary RPG franchise is partnering with Reebok for a massive, multi-tiered collaborative collection, which means you should be hopping for joy and getting those credit cards out. Instead of choosing a standard canvas model, the duo is utilizing Reebok’s most technically distinct, retro-futurist canvas: the Instapump Fury 94. Rather than dropping a single generic shoe, this collaboration is built as an expansive retrospective, offering 11 distinct colorways and matching vintage tees to represent all 11 mainline titles from the franchise’s history.
Here’s what you need to know.

The Details
- The 11-Title Concept: The collection spans the entire lineage of the franchise, from the 1986 original through to Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age. As such, each sneaker’s mesh base and structural overlays are meticulously color-blocked to mimic the iconic box art packaging and character designs of its corresponding mainline entry.
- The Custom Pump Units: The right shoe features a molded silhouette of the iconic Slime mascot on the inflation pump ball. The left pump ball is adorned with historical Roman numerals rendered in a sharp, customized Reebok typography. If you look hard enough, you can also find an easter egg or two.
- The Collectors Box & The Mini Medal: True to the franchise’s treasure-hunting roots, the packaging is a wild design experience in itself. The custom pull-out boxes feature the official Dragon Quest 40th Anniversary gold emblem. Hidden inside the lining of every single sneaker box is a physical, collectible replica “Small Medal” (Chiisana Medal), rewarding fans who open the lid.
- The Apparel Core: Dropping alongside the footwear is a lineup of washed, vintage charcoal-gray T-shirts (priced at ¥7,700 JPY). The graphics cleverly fuse retro 90s Instapump typography with distinct Slime and title colorways, giving them a lived-in, archival street look.
