For the first time since 1979, Spider-Man is officially returning to live-action television.
Make no mistake; this isn’t your sunny, high-tech modern hero. Amazon MGM Studios and Sony Pictures Television have officially unleashed Spider-Noir, an 8-episode event series that trades flashy Avengers tech for the gritty, corrupt alleys of 1930s Manhattan. Reprising his fan-favorite vocal performance from Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, the series sees Nicolas Cage stepping directly into the trench coat of a live-action, weathered, and deeply cynical private eye. The early review embargo has officially lifted, and the series is debuting to a stellar 91% on Rotten Tomatoes, with critics praising its bold direction.
Here’s what you need to know.

The Details
- The Plot: Set in a completely separate universe from the animated movies, the series follows Ben Reilly (Nicolas Cage), a down-on-his-luck private investigator dealing with severe past wartime trauma. Cage has described his live-action performance as “70 percent Humphrey Bogart, 30 percent Bugs Bunny.”
- The Dual Formats: In an unprecedented creative move, viewers are given a deliberate stylistic choice right from the jump. Every single episode will be available to stream in two distinct, separate visual formats: an Authentic Black & White print that pays tribute to 1930s Hollywood cinema, and a True-Hue Full Color version designed to make the comic-book action sequences pop.
The ‘Spider-Noir’ Cast
- Lamorne Morris as Robbie Robertson: Ben’s closest ally and an indefatigable freelance journalist trying to advance his career by chasing high-risk investigative stories in a deeply corrupt city.
- Brendan Gleeson as Silvermane: A dangerous, philosophizing Irish mob boss who serves as the central anchor for the season’s criminal conspiracy.
- Li Jun Li as Cat Hardy: A classic femme fatale nightclub singer with heavy ties to the underworld, heavily inspired by golden-age Hollywood icons like Rita Hayworth.
- Jack Huston as Flint Marko (Sandman): A high-level mob bodyguard whose unstable, shifting powers are a tragic, ticking biological clock.
- Abraham Popoola as Lonnie Lincoln (Tombstone): A ruthless, hardened World War I veteran muscling his way to the top of Manhattan’s criminal food chain.
When Does ‘Spider-Noir’ Release?
Amazon is handling the streaming rollout very differently compared to their typical weekly schedule for hits like The Boys. The entire 8-episode season will drop at once as a full binge-watch, but there is a tiered release window depending on your subscription:
- MGM+ Early Access Release Date: The entire season premieres domestically on MGM+’s linear broadcast channel on Monday, May 25, 2026, at 9:00 PM EDT.
- Global Prime Video Release Date: For the rest of the world, the 8-episode package drops globally on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, exclusively on Amazon Prime Video.
The only question is…will you be watching?
