The Michael movie reign continues.
Michael, has staged a comeback for the top spot, Moonwalking back to the No. 1 spot at the domestic box office during its fourth weekend in theaters. Defying a 39% Rotten Tomatoes score from critics, the film brought in a projected $26.1 million over the 3-day weekend. Boasting a remarkably narrow 31% week-on-week drop, Michael has now grossed surpassed $700 million worldwide, and the trajectory to potentially becoming the first music biopic in history to hit the $1 billion milestone is more clear than ever.
While a follow up to the film (there’s at least one more part coming if you’ve seen the ending) was semi-confirmed prior to the April 24 release date, the $700 million figure was what was needed for official confirmation to come from Lionsgate. It remains to be seen if that happens this week.
In the meantime, here’s a look at the competition Michael was up against this weekend.
