We’ve blinked, and now we’re suddenly in 2026. That means it’s time to start exploring what the hottest fashion trends of the year are going to be. Stepping into 2026, the sneaker world is divided between two extremes: first up, we have the razor-thin ‘Boxing Chic’ silhouettes that have been dominating the Parisian landscape, and the sculptural maximalism trend currently taking over the streetwear scene. In fact, as Vogue Arabia accurately predicted at the top of 2025, the Spring/Summer 2025 runways, specifically Alessandro Michele’s Valentino debut, were an early hint at this sculptural maximalism trend we’re seeing now. So we’re Balmain and Ganni’s shows for that matter. This leads us to our 2026 forecast. From the viral rise of ‘Sneakerinas’ to the high-stakes ‘Year of the Horse’ drops, it’s clear the industry is trading chunky comfort for ‘anti-fashion’ elegance and performance tech.
Here is our definitive Decked Out 2026 Sneaker Forecast.

The Rise of ‘Boxing Chic’
It’s time to bid adieu to oversized, chunky sneakers. For now, at least. 2026 is all about boxing chic—a trend defined by razor-thin soles, aerodynamic shapes and a high-fashion obsession with the ring. Channeling your inner Rocky Balboa is the key to nailing this trend, and there are certainly plenty of options to choose from. Leading the charge is the Puma Speedcat, which has officially transitioned from a niche motorsport icon to a global street-style staple. High-top boxing boots and mid-cut silhouettes, popularized by retro adidas staples like the Adidas Rasant are also going to be popular choices due to their ability to pair perfectly with wide-leg denim and oversized pieces. We saw this trend specifically with Celine and Dior showcasing boxing-inspired boots on their 2026 runways.
But the colorways are important here as well, as the 2026 palette is shifting towards metallic and suede finishes. Here are some of my suggestions.

A lower-key version of this is the Core Sneakers from adidas Japan, which feature a slim silhouette and a simplistic design at the forefront. Additionally, they feature a slight metallic finish, which also aligns with another 2026 trend.

2026 is the Year of the ‘Sneakerina’
Ballet flats made their resurgence in 2024, and it certainly seems like they’ve been everywhere. 2026 is all about taking that trend to the next level. Say hello to the ‘Sneakerina’ trend, which is all about proving that the hybrid aesthetic has evolved into a permanent streetwear category. Something of a cross between a performance trainer and a delicate pump, this silhouette aligns perfectly with the ‘Quiet luxury’ choice for the year. Here are the models defining the trend.

Lunar New Year 2026: The ‘Year of the Horse’ Collection
Lunar New Year 2026 is all about the “Year of the Horse,” which officially kicks off on February 17th. This means the industry’s heavy hitters are leaning into premium textures like faux pony hair and Western-inspired rodeo detailing. Here’s what we can expect in 2026.
The Key Drops
- Nike Ja 3 ‘Year of the Horse’ (Jan 16): Decked out in a ‘Light Chocolate’ colorway for $145, this pair features a faux pony hair tongue I just talked about and a shimmering golden Swoosh as the finisher.
- Air Jordan 1 Low OG ‘CNY’ (Feb 17): The crown jewel of the collection. The OG ‘Cuny’ features intricate floral embroidery on the toe box, a ‘scroll’ style tongue tag for the technical specs and a golden Jumpman hang-tag to round it all out.
- Nike Kobe 8 EXT Protro ‘YOTH’ (Spring 2026): For the collectors and Kobe Bryant-enthusiasts, this $290 premium sneaker swaps traditional performance mesh for a textured, Black Pony Hair upper and Metallic Gold hardware, giving you style and function all in one go.
- New Balance ‘Year of the Horse’ Pack (Jan 1): A massive six-shoe drop (including the AZORB 2000 and 2010) featuring monochromatic suedes designs and pony-hair heel panels. There’s lots to choose from here, so have at it.
The Bottom Line
2026 will be a total structural reset for the sneaker industry. Collectors are going to move away from generic hype models, and toward shoes that tell a specific story. Which 2026 trend are you copping?
